I cut a leaf and planted it but it rotted.
I don't want to rush things, but I also don't want to do too little and make it worse later. I'm not very skilled with plants and I'm learning by trial and error.

Aloe does NOT usually propagate from a leaf. The ideal method is always the pups; leaves almost always rot.
After several attempts, I realized that patience was key. Something similar happened to me and in the end I decided to wait a little longer before doing anything.
